# Costa Rica Adventure Guide
Costa Rica packs more biodiversity per square mile than almost anywhere on Earth. It's a playground for adventure travelers — here's how to experience it.
The adventure capital. Zip-line through cloud forest canopy at Sky Adventures. White-water raft the Pacuare River (class III–IV rapids through jungle gorges). Hike to La Fortuna waterfall — 70 meters of cascading water with a swimming hole at the base.
At night: Soak in the natural hot springs heated by Arenal Volcano. Tabacón or EcoTermales are the best.
Where rainforest meets Pacific beaches. The national park is small but dense with wildlife — howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, and iguanas. Hire a guide (about $20/person) — they'll spot animals you'd never find alone.
After the park, hit the public beach or surf at nearby Playa Espadilla.
A mystical world of hanging bridges, mist-shrouded trails, and the world's highest density of orchids. The hummingbird gallery is free and spectacular. Book a night walk to see tarantulas, sleeping birds, and kinkajous.
- **Tamarindo**: Best for beginners. Consistent waves, surf camps everywhere.
- **Santa Teresa**: Bohemian surf town. Stronger waves, incredible sunsets.
- **Pavones**: One of the world's longest left breaks. For experienced surfers only.
- Daily budget: $50–80 (hostels/sodas), $150–300 (mid-range)
- Park entry fees: $16–18 USD per person
- Best value: Eat at sodas (local diners) — casado meals are $5–8
- Car rental: Essential but expensive ($40–60/day + mandatory insurance)
Pura vida isn't just a saying — it's a way of life. Embrace it.
