# Ibiza Beyond the Clubs
Ibiza has two personalities. By night: the world's greatest clubs, DJs, and superyacht parties. By day: pine-forested hills, turquoise calas, and a UNESCO-listed old town. Most tourists only see the first one.
The walled upper town is a UNESCO World Heritage site — cobblestone streets, Gothic cathedral, and sweeping views of the Mediterranean. Walk the Renaissance ramparts at sunset. The climb is steep but the views of Formentera on a clear day are worth it.
- **Cala Comte** — Turquoise water so bright it looks Photoshopped. Sunset Beach and Ashram Room restaurants on the cliffs. Go before 10am in summer or you won't find parking
- **Cala Salada** — Smaller, more local. Jump off the rocks into impossibly clear water
- **Cala d'Hort** — Views of the mystical Es Vedrà rock island. Legend says it's the tip of Atlantis
- **Cala Xarraca** — Far north, mostly locals. Mud baths on the beach (people cake themselves in mineral-rich clay)
- **Las Dalias** (Saturday) — The original hippie market since 1985. Handmade jewelry, live acoustic music, fresh juices. Gets very crowded by noon
- **Punta Arabí** (Wednesday) — Larger, more commercial, still worth a wander
- **San Juan** (Sunday) — The local market. Fewer tourists, more artisans
**Café del Mar** in San Antonio is the original sunset bar — it basically invented the chill-out music genre in the 1990s. Yes, it's touristy. Yes, you should still go. Arrive by 7pm for a good spot. Café Mambo next door is livelier (DJs start earlier).
For a more local sunset: hike up to **Torre des Savinar** — a 18th-century watchtower with views of Es Vedrà. Bring wine and a picnic. No bar, no DJ, just the sun sinking behind the mystical rock.
- **La Paloma** (San Lorenzo) — Garden restaurant in the countryside. Italian-organic, all produce from their garden
- **Can Domo** (Jesús) — 17th-century finca turned restaurant. The rice dishes are spectacular
- **Es Boldadó** (Cala d'Hort) — Cliffside seafood with Es Vedrà views. Book for sunset
- Clubs charge €40-80 entry. Buy tickets online a week before for discounts
- Stay in San Antonio or Santa Eulària (cheaper than Ibiza Town)
- The bus system is surprisingly good — €2-4 per trip
- Skip the €100 beach clubs. Public beaches have the same water, same sun
