Most tourists stay on the north coast. Portland, on the northeast side, is where Jamaica reveals its soul. Stay at the Sea Cliff Hotel for dramatic ocean views. Explore the Blue Lagoon, Reach Falls, and Frenchman's Cove. Portland is lush, quiet, and unforgettable.
On the south coast, Treasure Beach is a fishing community with zero mega-resorts. Stay in local guesthouses, eat farm-to-table, and visit the famous Pelican Bar — a shack built on a sandbar a quarter-mile out to sea.
Most visitors skip Jamaica's highest peak. A sunrise hike to Blue Mountain Peak (7,402 ft) offers views from both coasts. Tour a coffee plantation while you're there — Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee is world-famous for a reason.
While tourists line up at Dunn's River Falls, locals head to Reach Falls in Portland. Less crowded, more natural, and surrounded by untouched rainforest. You can swim in the pools, jump from rocks, and have the falls almost to yourself.
Once a Hollywood hideaway (Errol Flynn lived here), Port Antonio remains beautifully untouched. The Blue Lagoon, Frenchman's Cove, and rafting on the Rio Grande make it worth the journey from Kingston.
On the south coast near Treasure Beach, YS Falls is a seven-tiered waterfall with natural pools and ziplining above the canopy. Far less crowded than the north coast falls.
A rugged limestone region in the interior with unique hiking through sinkholes, caves, and forests. Best explored with a local guide.
