# Lisbon Hidden Gems: 10 Neighborhoods Tourists Miss
Lisbon's charm extends far beyond Tram 28 and Pasteis de Belém. These are the neighborhoods where Lisboetas actually live, eat, and spend their weekends.
A residential neighborhood with the best market in Lisbon. Mercado de Campo de Ourique has 20+ food stalls under one roof. Try the prego (steak sandwich) at O Prego da Peixaria. The neighborhood cemetery is surprisingly beautiful — the mausoleums are mini chapels.
Lisbon's coolest neighborhood. Concept stores, design shops, and the beautiful Jardim do Príncipe Real with a 150-year-old cedar tree. Saturday organic market in the garden. Embaixada — a 19th-century palace turned shopping gallery.
Alfama's quieter, hillier neighbor. Miradouro da Graça has the same view as the famous castle viewpoint — with a bar. Visit Vila Berta, a hidden courtyard with laundry hanging from balconies.
Under the 25 de Abril Bridge. LX Factory — a former industrial complex turned creative hub with the coolest bookstore in Lisbon (Ler Devagar). Sunday flea market. Rio Maravilha for rooftop drinks with bridge views.
Lisbon's Brooklyn. Warehouse art galleries, craft breweries, and the best seafood at Rui dos Pregos. Underdogs Gallery for street art. Musa brewery for craft beer in a former factory.
Home to Ajuda National Palace (the Versailles of Portugal), but most tourists skip it. The botanical garden is free and gorgeous. This neighborhood has the best views of the 25 de Abril Bridge.
Technically across the river in Almada, but a 5-minute ferry from Cais do Sodré. The view back to Lisbon from the ferry is worth the trip alone. Eat fresh fish at Ponto Final — tables literally on the water's edge with Lisbon as your backdrop.
Skip the tourist traps in Baixa. Eat where locals eat:
- Tasca do Chico (Alfama) — fado and petiscos
- Zé da Mouraria — the best bacalhau in Lisbon
- Cervejaria Ramiro — legendary seafood, expect a queue
Lisbon is a city of hills, light, and saudade. Walk slow, ride the elevators (they're public transport, not tourist traps), and let yourself get lost.
