Negril is Jamaica's laid-back west coast paradise. Unlike Montego Bay's resort energy or Ocho Rios' adventure vibe, Negril is about doing nothing — and doing it perfectly. Seven Mile Beach is the centerpiece, but the west end cliffs offer a completely different experience.
Actually about 4 miles long, but nobody's counting. This stretch of powdery white sand is consistently ranked among the world's best beaches. Public access is free, and you can walk the entire length. Beach bars serve cold Red Stripe and fresh seafood all day.
The most famous sunset spot in Jamaica. Located on the cliffs at Negril's west end, Rick's Cafe attracts daredevils who jump from the cliffs (up to 35 feet) into the turquoise water below. Arrive by 4:30pm for a good sunset spot. Weekends are busiest.
The west end of Negril is dramatically different from the beach side — limestone cliffs plunge into the Caribbean, with boutique hotels perched at the edges. Best cliff-jumping spots: Rick's Cafe, The Caves, Xtabi. Always check depth before jumping.
